Episode 8 - My Sister’s Keeper

In this episode we investigate Lungile Dubu who allegedly gained power of attorney of her sister’s belongings and left her sister Dudu Khumalo without a cent in her name. Dudu Khumalo’s right to be protected was violated and her funds were abused.

Family is meant to look after us and even stand in the line of fire when we are facing the strongest tempests. What happens when those you love and trust are the root of your destruction?

Dudu Khumalo, a 56 year old from Dobsenville Soweto. Dudu complains that her sister Lungile Dubu stole everything she owns. Dudu says she was made to sign power of attorney documents because after the bank visit her sister gradually cleaned out her bank account. Dudu has banks statements with usual activity such as clothes purchases worth R10 000, a deposit of a Kia Sportage R10 000,a withdrawal of R239000 that Old Mutual deposited into her account upon Lungile’s request, after falsely claiming that the money was to look her ailing sister. Dudu has tried to solve this matter by opening a fraud case with the police, when she follows up with them they send her from pillar to post. She even appointed a lawyer to help her, to no avail, which is why she has approached Speak Out for help. At the time of compiling this research Dudu was renting a room from one of her cousins, she lost her house, at some stage her daughter, her money and even her job, and in all this her sister Lungile had a huge role to play.
